SOLENT HARBOUR UP FOR SALE
NEWS RELEASE
21 December 2009
Bembridge Harbour Improvements Company has instructed Chesterton Humberts to sell Bembridge Harbour on the Isle of Wight.
Bembridge is a tidal harbour with marina and mooring facilities for 600 boats. Over recent years the yachting facilities have been extended and modernised. Uniquely the statutory harbour powers run with the Harbour under an Act of Parliament so the owners can set bye laws and charge harbour dues.
Simon Gardiner, director of Chesterton Humberts’ specialist marine property team, comments: “It’s not often an entire Solent harbour comes for sale. We are expecting interest from existing and new marine operators wishing to gain or extend their foothold in the high value south coast yachting market. It is expected that interest will be brought to a head with selection of a preferred bidder in January.”
Originally serving the Island’s railway and operated by British Rail, Bembridge Harbour came into private ownership in 1968 and now provides unrivalled facilities for the yachtsman and tourist.
As a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and within a Special Area of Conservation, the harbour is covered by a raft of environmental laws designed to protect natural habitat and the environment. Chesterton Humberts is inviting offers of over £3 million.
