Digital and online PR strategies for the UK commercial property market
It has been estimated that over the past four decades total readership of newspapers in the UK has dropped by 25% and around a third fewer people regularly read a national paper now than only 20 years ago.
An article in Housebuilder Magazine (March 2009) stated: "...we have seen a 300% increase in the number of property related searches on Google since 2005. Even during the worst property downturn in history (2008) there were still 15% more property related searches than during the boom year of 2007."
The Internet has changed the world we live and operate in. The expansion of online media has transformed how news is distributed and the emergence of "citizen journalist", combined with the growth of social media, has had a profound effect on the way in which public relations is undertaken.
Web 2.0 - the second generation of the Internet, especially "the movement away from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content and social networking" - has great implications for the property industry and how property professionals communicate with their target audiences: partners, clients, occupiers, vendors, financiers, legal advisors, etc.
